Is this really a valid basis for condemning homosexuality?
22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
It forbids lying with man as you would with a woman, but that could mean all kinds of things. That could mean relating to a man as one would with a woman. It could mean that romantic relationships are forbidden, but not sexual ones.
Also, it says nothing about lesbian homosexuality. And it doesn't really explicitly mention gay sexuality.
It does appear on the whole to take a pretty negative view of homosexuality. But as even the notorious bigot and modern day Pharisee James Dobson has said, the laws of the Old Testament are trumped by the laws laid down by Jesus.
And as far as we know, Jesus did not condemn homosexuality, lesbian or gay. He did did condemn judging people, or interpreting the Bible as the Pharisees did -- literally.
What if it is valid?
What if Dobson is right in his interpretation of the meaning of the Bible?
Then what is the next step?
On Leviticus 18 interpretation
I certainly think that that verse is a direct condemnation of homoseksuality. Especially the point about the old testament rules not being applicible anymore doesn't make sence. If they weren't then they would not have been in the bible. Also, the interpretation of the pharisees wasn't totally wrong. They just added more and more laws and rules that they made up themselves. Then they said because other people didn't follow all of these rules they were completely bad. I'm not saying here that the people weren't bad but not anymore terrible than the pharisees or you and I. Since no man is without any sin (except Jesus ofcourse). Which makes that every single one of us deserves eternal death. But because of the love and forgiveness of God. He send Jesus to pay for all our sins. Thus, creating a way for us to be saved by and through Jesus. And not by our own power but by God's.
That's NOT against Homosexuality though
It just says 'if you lie with another man, you will suffer stoning". It doesn't say anything about sexual intercourse. Am I right?
