We are a democracy

That means whatever the people decide; that is what we should do. I don't think the majority of the US population believes that the 10 commandments should be taught or endorsed in schools. But perhaps certain states do.

10 commandments in Schools

America wants to continue to stress freedom of choice and do away with showing the 10 commandments everywhere. I personally believe that it needs to be put anywhere that eyes can see. Simply closing our eyes to it will never make it go away. With things happening in our society that continues to be displayed openly for all to see, having the ten commandments there can't possibly be a BAD thing, let alone offensive. For a country so diverse, why attempt to place God in a closet or under a carpet?

This is stupid ! Do you try

This is stupid !
Do you try to tell us that in certain states it is Ok to steal and to kill ?

This makes me laugh.

Well, this question is TOTALLY biased because you're on a CHRISTIAN website. Of course people are going to say they belong everywhere. Go ask 1,000 people on the street and bring me those results, and I'll listen.

The Ten Commandments are good rules, but the fact that they're tied to a religion puts it off for me. I'll follow the the Ten Commandments--not because I won't go to Heaven if I don't, but because they're morally right. It's hard to go against them anyway.

Totally.

I agree completely. They shouldn't be put in schools because children should believe whatever they'd like to, not whatever is spoon-fed and shoved down their throat. I mean honestly, kids HAVE to recite the anthem on a daily basis which states: "... one nation, under God...". I don't think it's right for a country that claims to be free to have that kind of input on schools. Elementary schools at that. That pretty much implies that you're brainwashing them when they're young.

These are basic principles

These are basic principles given to us by our Creator. There is no good reason why they should be taken out and discarded as secular groups desire. America is stooping to serve these people who represent evil.

Spoken as someone who

Spoken as someone who clearly does not appreciate that America is made up of many different peoples, with many different beliefs.

If you were a Muslim in a public school how would you feel?

If the 10 commandments should be on the wall, then so should similar examples from all other religions that are present in that school. It should not be one-sided.

reply

We are in America! a Christian nation, NOT a Muslim nation! muslims are here because Christians built a better nation to live in than the Muslims did, otherwise they's be there. So respect this Nation and it's principles and if they want to worship their god go right ahead but do not compare any god to THE ALMIGHTY GOD that blesses this nation YHVH. WHere HIS name is ....be it on a wall or on currency, no other idol god can be!!

I am speaking as an Egyptian Christian that was raised for few years in Egypt. Egypt has a majority of muslims(~80%) who forces their believes every where especially in schools. They have quran verses posted all over buildings and public schools and the children is schools have to memorize quran CHAPTERS as part of the arabic language literature classes, history classes and sometimes science classes! Do you really think that we should care of what they think here in the U.S. where there's a majority of Christians?

thats true but in schools

thats true but in schools you learn about all kinds of different cultures so if muslim students were to see the comandments they would learn about other religions. For example i am a high school student and im a christian. in school we learn about islam and other religions. just because everyone does not agree does not mean that commandments cant be displayed in public schools. anyways there's always portraits of buddha and other religious figures in history rooms so it really would not matter b/c it would just be a poster.

America - founded on the Bible - God's Holy Word!

I'm afraid you are sadly mistaken, the United States of America was "founded" on God's Holy Word ( not the Koran, etc.), which openly portrays the 10 Commandments or better described as God's law for His children. So, if this country was founded on the Bible then what makes displaying the 10 commandments "one-sided"? No where in the Constitution does it say anything about the Koran or any other false teaching... No where! Therefore, WHY NOT display something that has been a part of the foundation of America and has been a major part in making America what it has been in the past? If some other denomination doesnt like or agree with what is being displayed then, especially if he is from another country, then maybe he should go back to where he "really" belongs and then he can display whatever the heck he wants to and whenever. If I was muslim, I would be where muslim's should be... not in America

I could'nt agree more

I feel the same apllies in Britain, its a taboo to hold strong Christian beleifs, if OUR religion offends you that much, why would you choose to live in our country.

YOU ARE RACIST

What a horrible thing to say, everybody on this planet (person, animal or plant) are all gods creations if each different religion believes in a different god (or Higher power) LET THEM (ever heard of free will??) and for you to say things like (oh, well if they want to be muslim they should go back to where they came from), then maybe you should crawl back under the rock in hell that you crawled out of, because the diversity that the U.S. has today is what makes this country soooooo great, If you cannot appreciate that or appreciate how diverse the religions are here then you are a racist and have no business here in the U.S. at all...

Hahaha!

You sir, are an idiot. To put it nicely.

Just shut your mouth cause everything you're saying makes you look ignorant and racist.

If people should stay where they belong, then Americans should stay out of the middle east.

Way to go, hypocrite.

10 commandments

I love America and believe in religious freedom; however, When Bill Clinton was president, he and Janet Reno perceived the Branch Davidian religion in Waco, Tx. as a threat to our nation and had these people destroyed. The Muslims should be viewed under this same precedent. I do not care if the Bible, Ten Commandments, a nativity scene or some other symbol of Christianity offends them. They offend me. I am tired of their cowardly acts of terrorism and their acts of murder and violence, because they might disagree with someone. All Muslims without exception are evil people who make Hitler look like a choir boy. America better unite (Jews Christians, atheists , homosexuals, blacks, whites, hispanics, natives, and others) and destroy these people. The Muslims want to dominate the world and destroy all who do not agree with them. Islam is not a religion of peace. Islam is a cancer that needs to be stopped, before it spreads any further.

muslims

I dont think all muslims are bad,I just think there are too many being brain washed in to thinking that we are against them.most are peace loving and very dedicated to there faith.I am a peace loving christian.

hear hear :).. let us not

hear hear :).. let us not judge thee as a whole, but jedge thee as an individual...

in other words, not all muslims are evil.. just like not all christians are evil...

in everything we see in this world, from atoms to theories, from concept to actions, from facts to beliefs, there are always two sides of it..

Open your mind, be aware, and look from another perspective..

thank you.......its so sad

thank you.......its so sad to see such hatred in people who consider themselves children of GOD or christians. It's even sader when the hatred is politically driven and comes from a lack of knowledge about others. Islam is a religion no lesser than christianity no greater same with judiasim and other religions. We are all taking different paths to reach the same goal, eternal life and while we are here peace on earth. As a child of GOD, which we all are, even muslims, for those who seem to hate muslims, one of the greatest teaching is love your neighbors and to respect and honor all religions. Now there are exceptions to this rule and there are people in a group that will do wrong but we can't blame the group, if so then i would blame all christinas for the enslavement of people and nations, for massive rapes and murder and for taking away from others the chance to live a good life.

YES THE 10 COMMANDMENTS SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS

It seems people are wanting to take everything about God out of our schools. Well, the way I see it, we dont tell the world how to believe and they shouldnt tell God's people how to believe.

Without God, this world is nothing.

Ten Comanments

No I think the 10 comandments have no place in the school..This is something for the parent's to teach not the school system....Besides if the child decides to be a beliver and accept Christ then that person is 10 times more powerful then some words on a piece of paper...Besides modern day hcristians don't even abide by all 10 comandments any way..For instance the sabbath day is not sunday it is friday at sunset to saturday at sunset..Jesus was a jew ask a jew when the sabbath really is...Besides worring about monuments of the 10 comandment would fall under Idolatry , because it seems like you care more about the tangible side to what it means then what G-d truley is trying to say to us ....He who is without sin cast the first stone , as long as I am in this earthly body I will never beable to cast a stone at someone...One day I will have to stand be for Him and be held acountable for what I have done the good and the bad...It will be like a court hearing where I will have to plead guilty for what I have done and then Jesus will step in and get me a plea bargain all because when He knocked that day I opened the door and began my walk with him...I have strayed from the path because of my ingnorance but they are just steps in G-d's plan for me...

i totally agreel. on

i totally agreel. on holidays teachers arent allowed to say merry christmas because there are atheists and other people that dont believe in God. many teachers consider themselves christians so if u say merry christmas to them they will reply and say the same thing back

the ten commandents are

the ten commandents are nothing but a bunch of rules for the society that wrote them down and believe in them. there is no proof that they are from GOD....we seem to get so work up about a set of rules that we do not even follow in this day and time. and while we are at it what haappen to the laws of moses or the nazarene covenant. these also came from GOD...so why are they not on walls on plaques and why are they not held as high as these 10 laws

Who will stand?

The 10 commandments is the fundamental principals upon which our christian faith was build. I presume that the USA sees itself still as a christian founded country. If that be so, then do not compromise your faith. Do you allow a foreign person to come into your house and change your house rules. Then why do you even have this debate about the 10 commandments. God is true and he will stand with us against the forces of evil -(2 Chronicles 16:9), but we have to stand for his truth like the Israelites (2 Chronicles 20:17). Who then will stand if not you?

The US was not founded by Christians

The US wasn't founded by Christians. Wanting it to be so doesn't make it so. Check out: http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/farrell_till/myth.html

Thank you!

Not founded by christians?

Dear Friend,
One of the great freedoms our country gives to us is the right to the freedom of speech. The freedom to write our opinions and express them freely are one of the great blessings of our country's heritage.

The founding fathers had "Bible believing Baptists" sit in at the writing of the Constitution in 1776. The continental congress in effect was influenced in large measure by "Born again christians". They assured us of the right of Freedom of Religion and freedom of speech. If it were not so, we wouldn't have people coming to the United States from countries like Iran, Iraq, India, Russia, Mexico, Africa, Haiti, etc.....

The United States goes far back to the early sixteen hundreds when "Christians" fled England under the hardships of the "Anglican Church". Believers who differed to the Churchs' practice, were branded heretics and burnt at the stake. They arrived on our shores, without homes, without jobs, without anything except hope. They came by the thousands and the hundreds of thousands. And though not all came with Bibles in hand, most did. I've read thousands and thosands of countless records of whole "communities in Massachusetts", Rhode Island, where many were converted to Jesus Christ. This was recorded a hundred years before the great awakening under John Wesley, George Whitfield, and Jonathan Edwards. These men were the backbone of Spiritual America in the early to mid 1700's.

The first churches in America were Baptist. Roger Williams was the first American Baptist Pastor in the mid 1600's. The gospel of Jesus Christ spread like wildfire. People were poor and existed off the land. There was no modern day conveniences like we have today. People looked to God as the only help, kind of the way they need to look at him today.

Look at old church records as late as the late 1800's and early 1900's. Millions of registers with countless nemes. The Presbyterians, Methodists, Congregationalists (D.L Moody himself a congregationalist, led one million people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.) Not a christian nation? What about the Southern Baptists? These people number in the 20,000,000. range and got George Bush elected with the conservative right wing vote. Today they speak out agains Homesexuality, wickedness, and above all else ignorance of God Almighty. Not a christian nation? Are you kidding me? The Catholic Church didn't even set foot on our soil until the middle of the 1800's. Well over 200 years after "Bible Believing Christians had preached the gospel all over this country.
You have a point if you look at our behaviors. We don't fear God like we should. We don't practice our faith and stand on the street corners like they did a hundred years ago. Much truth has been ignored today with Christians. Yes, we have our faults. But please don't make a statement that this never was a christian nation. You may have another professor of Theology see your post and make you look like a fool.

My friend it sounds like you don't understand our great heritage? Modern history taught in College and secular High School classes hate God. There is a reason they don't teach about Church history, because it attacks Evolution. That's what they teach today. Period. You will not see any christian truth ever on talk shows. Oprah won't dare put God fearing preachers on her show.

Jesus said to Nicodemus, a RELIGIOUS but LOST man, in John 3: Except a man be born again, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Nothing was said of Allah, Mary, Buddah, It was God. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Jacob. You need a new birth my friend, or you'll end up like Jonathan Edwards said, "IN A LAKE OF FIRE WHEN YOU DIE"

Sincerely,

Kevin G. Cogan
Minister of the TRUTH

All you have done is pointed

All you have done is pointed out facts in history but, left out some of the most important parts. Civilization existed long before your bible swinging pirates came to this land. You left out how these same men of god. murdered and rape the natives, took there land and then placed them on reservations. you left out how they enslaved blacks for 400 years, raped their women and lynch their sons, you left out how we enslaved the asians and held them in concentration camps. So if your are going to speak about how great christianity is...lets tell the whole story and not just part of it.

Well said!

Sometimes, I believe in a higher power. It might be God, it might not be. But if I'm looking for a puzzle piece to fit, evolution fits more than a religion. Religion is for people who seek comfort about the afterlife--or non-life.

are u against christianity

are u against christianity or what!

"The fool sayeth in his heart, there is no God"

Clearly you are what the Holy Bible calls "A FOOL" because if you even knew a little bit of history then you would know that America was definitely founded on God's word and God's word is for God's people AKA... Christians!! Maybe your someone who needs to become a christian? By the way you really should watch out for FALSE TEACHINGS... how can a person believe something so foolish unless he himself is without the Heavenly Father's Love? He cant!

I would love the ten

I would love the ten commandments to be everywere, but then we would be asked to tolerate other nasty religion's postings. And that is the price we pay in a democracy. Is that ok then?

Can anyone name the 10 commandments?

Can you name all 10 without looking them up -- can you type them into the comment field so we can see how you did? Thanks

I'll try....

I don't remember the exact language, but I think I know the gist of all of them.In no particular order:

  • Keep holy times holy
  • Honor thy father and mother
  • No other god before me
  • Don't blaspheme
  • Don't steal
  • Don't even think about stealing (don't desire what isn't yours)
  • Don't commit adultery
  • Don't even think about committing adultery (don't desire what isn't yours)
  • Don't kill
  • Don't lie

I think it is interesting that people are always saying how laws in this country are based on the ten commandments. Really, the only two commandments that are also laws are Don't Steal and Don't Kill(*). Those two laws appear in just about every culture I can think of, so it hardly seems that they are distinctlly Judeo-Christian features of the U.S. -Ami * Death penalty excepted

We were founded on rights to

We were founded on rights to life, liberty and happiness. Additionally - the separation of church and state. Yes, the fathers of this nation were Christian. Christians that were fearful of government that incorporated any religious dogma. They were Christians of many different denominations that often did not agree.

No foreign person has "come into my house and told me what to do" as has been written here. They have been invited. Come, sit and share with me what you find to be true.

Our schools teach citizenship. Our Christian and Jewish faiths teach the Ten Commandments. Most other religions have teachings that are almost identical to the Ten Commandments and are taught in their churches. This is how it should be. This is what builds peace, love and brotherhood amongst all people.

I don't have any particular

I don't have any particular problem with the 10 Commandments in general. They are good principals which are lived out by many people anyway, regardless of religion. However, BECAUSE we are a democracy, in which everyone has the right to practice (or NOT practice) any religion, this religious document should not be posted in public (gov't funded) buildings and institutions. This is the government endorsing a religion, which is unconstitutional.

Regardless of the founding of our country (which is not as religion-oriented as some would like to believe), we are supposed to adapt and evolve, in other words IMPROVE, and respecting difference of religion, as much as it might pain you, is simply the right thing to do. You don't have to accept others' beliefs, or stop trying to change them, but you must respect their RIGHT to have different beliefs than you and just simply acknowledge that people do think differently from you.

Leave the 10 Commandments in churches, homes, bumper stickers, and anywhere else that isn't gov't funded, and I could really care less. But leave it out my schools and courthouses, please.

Lets think for a minute

Alright, lets think about this for a minute.... even if I where an unbeliever, why would I take offense to my child being taught rules that when lived by can only make them a better person and make their life easier....hmmmm? I would have nothing against it! All these Atheist want to see is that is has something to do with God and "OH NO YOUR NOT GONNA MAKE ME BELIEVE!!!!" even if the item has nothing to do with proclaiming Christianity. And why dont they want to believe in God? anyone , anyone... because if we have a creator then we have someone to answer to and there are guidelines set up for us to live by, and if we came from monkeys we are just animals with no one to answer to, so we can make up our own rules. This sounds really good to the human mind, because no one wants to answer to anyone! As far as evolution goes.... the laws of science (which supposedly proves evolution to be true for those who wish it to be so) clearly states "Anything left to itself will deteriorate unless acted upon by an outside force." So evolution right there impossible. Not to mention all of the geochronometers that show the earth is clearly 6-7000yrs old.... once again shown to us by the same way the religionists of evolution wish to push their religion on us....which would be science. Science is the study of facts, and evolution is clearly the speculation of a a group of people some having degrees in some form or another of science, but still lacking common sense. If I sound angry, yes, I am. I am frustrated that so many people are lost to the knowledge that true science proves! Just about every leader in the evolutionist community has retracted their claims to evolution before dying, but you dont get to hear about that. Or how the scientist that found the "missing link" skeleton, found part of it 100 yds away from the other half!!! Was it hit by a train? Or did we just conveniently put two different species skeletons together to show what we wanted to see Mr. Scientist?

wake up or go back to school

I'm amazed at the ignorance of most of the comments posted. Has anybody ever been to Washington DC or taken a history class? Our country was founded on christian principals so preaching about democracy does little to tell me anybody understands the history of our country. More than half of the buildings in washington have various bible versus and the ten commandments ENGRAVED in their stone and marble structures. So many are disconnected from the truth and closed down to the reality of what our country was founded on? I guess we should burn or destroy all of our gevernment structures so that we can have a fresh slate and not OFFEND anybody WHO CHOSE to come to this country that was founded on christian principals? The more liberal we become the more our society decays and few understand the implications. It's so true and much has been written on this once society embraces moral decay their economic and political structures crumble too.

Founders were Deist Christians (non-literalists) and Very Libera

Not only was the US not founded by Christians, it *was* founded by liberals -- Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, etc. Granted Hamilton was a moderate perhaps, but he didn't have much of a say in the founding documents.

Actually, the founders were mostly Deists, which was a kind of Christianity much more worldly and probably much closer to the teachings of Jesus than the kinds of Christianity you see politicians associating themselves with today.

you are so right as a matter

you are so right
as a matter of fact I believe most of the presidents were christians.
For example Lincoln was probably a christian because when I was younger and I learned about him there were a few quotes by him that were from the bible

Abraham Lincoln

You are right about Abraham Lincoln. He was a Primitive Baptist. Primitive Baptists were one of the few denominations before the Civil War to allow blacks to become members. I wonder, if the church had any influence on his policies as president? For those who said that our founding fathers were not Christian and some kind of liberal, I would like to know who has been lying to them. Can anyone read the constitution and not see the Christian reasoning in it? The Constitution says all men have certain unalienable rights endowed by our creator. Liberals do not recognize a creator. They believe all this evolution nonsense.

Abraham Lincoln

I have to correct myself. Those rights are unalienable rights, and this was mentioned in the Declaration of Independance and not the Constitution. That was poor proofreading. Sorry.

No Christians?

Granted - I don't know much about the history of your country since I'm not of the USA, but a great sadness has come over me when I read the to article about the "Christian Myth". Devide and conquer seems to be the final destination here. You are a nation, devided upon itself.
No one will stand then!

Christian Myth

Wow. Your comment touched me to my very soul. It is not often we Americans get to see ourselves through the eyes of an outsider. I am sorry that you are saddened, my friend. I am saddened sometimes also by the division of our people in terms of religion. There are over 200 sects, divisions, denomitations, etc. in the USA alone which all call themselves "Christian." How can that be? We read the same Word of God.
Well, there is no real answer to that, I am afraid. We cannot dictate what people in this county or any other country believes, or how they divide the Word. All we can do is take our freedom of speech to heart, and try to learn and understand God's word to the best of our ability. Then we need to spread that Word.
You will probably see me several times in this thread, and others, because I have an important message. It is what I believe with all my heart. It is the message of love. When Jesus was tempted by the Pharisees, "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"
The Master ansswered. But before we go there, does that sound like what we Christians are doing in this country? We are debating, arguing, and sometimes even fighting over the commandments. Moving on, Jesus said, "Love the Lord thy God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength." To me, that means with everything that is in you. The second greatest is "Love thy neighbor as thyself."
Then He said something very profound. "On these two things hang all the Law and the Prophets." Think about that a minute. ALL the Law. All the Prophets. That includes every Word of God that was in the world at that time.
My friends, if we could only truly learn those two, everything else would take care of itself, wouldn't it? And perhaps our friends in other countries would see what God wants us to be, instead of all the debate.
"They will know you are christians because you love one another, as I have loved you."
Do I get an Amen?

I will tell you how....

No one is devoted anymore.... they want to find a church that tickles their ear and lets them go on their way. Or as I have seen in the past, the church gets divided on such a moral and hair raising issue as whether or not Adam and Eve had belly buttons...(No I am not kidding, I have seen it!!!!) and Satan ever so sneakily takes the attention from God and places it on a useless issue that will cause division and Voila... two churches from one! Now a new name has to be given to each and you have two new denominations... You may think this a trite and silly answer, but until you have seen this idiotic behavior first hand, you wont realize its unbelievable and ridiculous existence.

Agreed

Amen, amen, and amen to that statement. Church members don't get it. And Christians have lost sight of WHY they are here and their duty, generally speaking. There are, like Elijah during his fleeing from Jezebel, people still sold out to Jesus Christ ("7000 that have not bow their knees to Baal."). But the light is going out because of our tolerance of sin in our lives. If there is ever a need for a REAL revival, now is the time.

denominational religion

Have you ever noticed how religion seperates people, do you really think this is what Jesus wants? Do you set condition on compation? Jesus didn't! are we to be like him as Christians, If you love him then you will keep these commandments, And they should be everywhere a heart beats!!! God says every Knee will bend and every head will bow!He is the highest high, the Alpha the Omega, the beginning and the end. Jesus is the only Hope for the World, Truth is Truth, Forgive them father for they no not what they do!

Denominational religion

Jesus is omnipotent and always gets what he wants (John 6:37-44). No man past, present or future can prevent Jesus from getting what he wants. The commandmnets for God's people are not in the book of Exodus. The commandments for the Christian are in Mathew 22: 35-40. Focus on John1:17. Are you a lawyer or a Christian?

Mike Huckabee to post 10 Commandments on White House door

I heard on FoxNews that if he is elected Mike Huckabee will post the 10 Commandments on the door of the White House.

If this is true, what will it mean for our constitution. Isn't there supposed to be a separation between church and state?

Congress shall make no law

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;
where does it expressly mention separation of church and state?
a president or judge or school dispaying the ten commandments is not establishing a religion mandated by law, but prohibiting a Christian president, judge or teacher from dispaying them sure sounds like prohibiting the free exercise thereof.

Separation of church and state????

Ok... often quoted, and more often than quoted misunderstood or clearly twisted into what someone else wants you to believe. "Separation of church and state" meant that the church would never dip its hand into the Gov's coffers or have any control of the Gov. in any way. Not that the name of God and the beliefs written in the Bible could not be openly placed on the doorways to the nation to show what we stand for. The whole issue goes back to the roman catholic church being run by the king and the country of England being run by the church... they didnt wish for this blurring of the lines to occur again and hence said the phrase that so many people find as a way to remove God from our country. If your gonna quote something... know what it means please.

WHAT?

And yet "In God we trust" is on the dollar bill, I think it's too late to say no to the church and state thing guys. It would be nice to see if this really happens or if Hucckabee is just trying to gain the vote of the followers of the Lord. I think it's just a sham of the devil and that he would do anything to get into our homes.
But if not, them maybe it will end up being a way for God to infiltrate the white house. I feel that there is no real spirituality there and honestly if they want to place the Lord in the white house I'm all for it. Who are we to say where God goes and where he doesn't? I think that's up to the man up stairs. Bless you all.

Posting the ten Commandments

If we live the Ten Commandments as responsible individuals it is a much more effective and valid witness than endless arguing and fighting about public and or public school postings of them. Our witness as Christians is squandered when we allow ourselves to be drawn into debates and arguments that display attitudes that are not Christlike. Beating people over the head with the Ten Commandments is not introducing them to Jesus's love. We must love them, pray for them, be kind to them, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Ten Commandments

I live in a large city where there are 1- 4 or 5 murders per week. Homes are broken into and personal property is stolen. There seems to be no value placed on human life in many areas of this large city.
As a Christian, I think we would be doing the world a favor by intoducing the Bible to these people, most of whom consider themselves Christian, and displaying the Ten Commandments in public just might get the attention of someone.
I say put them in plain sight for all to see. The Bible IS God's Word. God said there is ONE God.
Please bring back the Ten Commadments so the public might get a chance to see some of what God expects of them.

10 Commandments

The problem is this: Christians have (1) lost sight of their original purpose; and (2) have allowed the enemy a fertile battleground.

Christians are commanded by God to contend for the faith (look at Jude) by being soulwinners and examples of Jesus in our daily lives.
We forget that the world is on its way to a Christless eternity because we allow our selves to get caught up in ISSUES, which the devil loves because he knows we'll spend more time and energy on those ISSUES rather than staying FOCUSED on the real task: praying, fasting, studying, learning, and telling others about the Saviour who loved us enough to die for us and them.

Are the 10 commandments important? Of course they are. Tell me though: how many people have been saved by giving them the 10 commandments? If a person can get saved by just believing in the 10 commandments, then there would have been no reason Jesus to die on the cross. That person would be saved by WORKS, not grace (Ephesians 2.8-9). The world LOVES this kind of message, for it doesn't remind him/her that they are responsible to Jesus the Creator and Judge., as misguided as that is.

No one wants to be legislated to, WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING THE REASON WHY!!! This is why we fail in trying to impose our beliefs on someone else. Even we (generally speaking) don't understand what we believe in, and WHY we believe it. So who are we insist that on someone else?

What would Jesus do? (Since we like to entertain ourselves with such sayings as that.) He NEVER imposed His will upon the Romans who ruled the day, even though He had every reason to do so. He NEVER made anyone do anything that they did not want to do. He LIVED the LAW TO FULFILL IT. He obeyed the Father in all He did. (Can YOU say that?) What was Jesus' command in Matthew 28.19-20?

The Jews had the same problem. They were to have been a light to the Gentile world, but they kept sinning and mingling with the world rather than staying apart and distinctive, even learning their abominations. God would judge them by delivering them to their enemies until they repented of their sin and sought the LORD.

The difference between them and the Church of this dispensation is that the Church is supposed to be empowered daily by God the Holy Spirit to do greater works than Jesus. What greater work is there than telling others about Jesus and living for Him daily?

So now the devil is "playing" the Church. We are caught up our soapboxes, spewing forth all kinds of drivel about this social ill known as getting rid of the 10 commandments. Listen, folks. If Jesus took care of every social ill and never gave anyone the Gospel, the social ills would be taken care of, and yet people would die and go to hell forever!

Get your lives cleaned up. Repent of your personal sins. Get on your knees and find out what the LORD would have you to do. If you aren't reading on a daily basis the Word of God, start today. If you aren't studying like you ought, get started. Meditation, memorization, praying as you ought, get started ASAP. Buy some tracts, and get into the habit of telling others about Jesus. Get active in your church: volunteer to your preacher some of your time in service. Be faithful in whatever you do, no matter how small it may be.

Pray for your leaders. You are commanded to do so (Romans 13). Take control of what the LORD has given you control over, and stop worrying about the rest.

I will go on record to say that some of you ranting about displaying the 10 commandments don't have a soulwinning life and don't really care about personal soulwinning. A lot of you are too lazy and complacent to make an effort. Whether or not the 10 commandments are displayed should NOT hinder anyone from telling others about them in an effort to lead the soul to Jesus Christ.

10 commandments

In answer to the comment by Lastboyscout002: Amen....Amen, and Amen. Your message is very insightful and wise. I only had to wince a little at the end, when you turned a bit negative, calling people names, etc. But all is forgiven in love; which brings me to my point:
I have been preaching this for a long time, and will continue to preach it until I take my final breath. When it comes to commandments, Jesus was asked, in Matthew 24:36, "Which is the greatest commandment?" The Pharisees were trying to trip our Lord up in His own words. He came through for the world and for God as only the Master could. The greatest commandment is love. It is love for God, with everything that is in you. The second greatest commandment is also love. It is love for your fellowman. Jesus said, "On these two things hang all the Law and the Prophets." Would Jesus just make that up to satisfy his temptors? I don't think so. I think he was laying the foundation for everything that a Christian, in his time or in ours, would need to be a child of God.
I have had debates with nearly everyone who has read or heard my message as to whether that is too simple, or leaves out too much. I maintain, and believe that scripture would bear me out, that if one learns the lesson of love for God and our neighbors, as well as for ourselves, everything else that God wants for us, and for His glory, would fall into place.
Do I get an Amen?

10 commandments - 2

Hee hee. I forgot to add a very important thought in this thread. Do the 10 commandments belong in the schools? Yes, and no. They belong in the hearts of every man, woman and child, in school, at work, everywhere Christians go. As I said before, if the commandment of love is held and taught the way God wants us to, it will include all the others.
Should the commandments, or anything religeous be a matter of government, or any of its branches? Should the school system itself put the 10 commandments up for display in schools? No. The Christians are given the task to spread the word. We should be allowed to spread that word anywhere, at any time, as long as we do not disrupt or endanger anyone in doing so. Our students, teachers, or other staff in schools should not disrupt the educational process in preaching God's word, but anytime there is a break, or times when students are allowed to share personal information, they should be allowed the right of free speech. Muslims, Bhuddists, and every other religeon should be handled the same way. The "debate" should be open, so the the truth can stand; the truth of God's love, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Word should not be censored, nor should it be promoted by government. It should be allowed to spread through personal contact.

response to 10 commandments issue

I agree with the above sentiments wholeheartedly. And if I was rough at the end of my original comments, please shed a little light my way so I may be better informed.

I am convinced, though, that the issue of the display of the 10 commandments is a signal of a much bigger issue, which is the church turning its back on the Word of God in favor of trying to build the Body of Christ without the LORD's guidance. If this is a harsh statement, it is. But the truth of the matter is that more so now Christians are more willing to sacrifice Biblical fidelity rather than stand for it, even if it means forming and working with unholy unions like the Roman Church. We are commanded by God to SEPARATE ourselves from the world and the things in the world (1 John 2) like the Jews were commanded by the LORD to keep themselves separated from the world during the dispensation of the Law. The Jews didn't, and got corrupted. The Body of Christ is doing it now; we just don't think it is happening right now. We allow ourselves to be deluded by most of our Christian leaders and mainly because of our tolerance of sin in our personal lives and around us.

Paul warned in Romans 16.17 "Mark those which cause divisions among you CONTRARY TO THE DOCTRINE WHICH YE HAVE LEARNED, and AVOID THEM." Paul also NAMED NAMES of people that were to be avoided. Paul did those things by the power of the Holy Spirit. We, however, in the name of "love" would much rather compromise and risk telling others about their need of a Saviour and compromise rather than offending someone who PROFESSES Christianity but their lives and religion say otherwise. Since when are we better than the Apostle Paul?

The world is in the state that it is in mainly because the Church needs to be REVIVED in the power of the LORD Jesus. The Church need a revival of real religion, much like during the times of Billy Sunday and Charles Finney and Charles Spurgeon.

There are bigger things going on than the need to display of the 10 commandments. I am not saying they shouldn't (as memorials of what the country was founded upon); I'm just saying Christians need to wake themselves up start living their lives as though Jesus will return at any moment, because He can!

10 commandments

I so agree with you. We need the 10 commandments in the school and public offices

10 comandments in schools

my name is chris and i am a kid in school in VA and i thank that schools really should have the ten comandments in it because public school is not the greatest thang on the earth for christian people, now i go to church every sunday and sometimes more and belive me you can't get enough of the bible, and it would be even better if the 10 comandments wetre in schools, that would be awesome. and i also have something to say about some coments that were on the main screen, had some bad language and who ever put it their is really acting stupid so u should stop putting that on a christan website, if u gotta problem with me sayin somethin about it you can talk to me on aim at krazyduvall thats insane to put on this website or any other,, save that garbage for the trash can!!!!!!!!!!

America was founded as a Christian Nation

The comments above reveal some good facts about the founding of our nation. Let me add 2 or 3 other facts.
* George Washington said, "It is impossible to rule a nation apart from the Bible.
* Most of original thirteen colonies "required a man seeking public office to be a believer in Jesus Christ". Check the original state charters.
* Guess who founded the American Bible Society? Congress did. Check all of the National monuments in DC and see all the scriptures that are etched there.
Yes, America was founded as a Christian nation. You also check the statistics as to how the educational system has degraded since the commandment and prayer were outlawed back in 1972. Yes the commandments should be in the schools.

10 commaandments

I believe in Christ and attend church every Sunday; however, I do not want to see the Ten commandments in pblic buildings. This is especially true in court rooms. When I look at the Ten Commandments, I see that I am guilty and worthy of condemnation. If a Biblical verse needs to be hanging on our courtroom walls. I would rather see 1Chronicles 16:34. or the entire 136th Psalm.

10 commandments, when in Rome, do As the Romans do

If and when you visit a muslim country you are expected to adhere to their rules, I completely understand and respect that every one is entilted to their belief, however, America like England is a Christian country, so why shouldnt the ten commandments be taught in schools.

responce

I could not disagree more. America is a free counrty, not a Christian religious state. Not all of the founding fathers were christian. Thomas Jefferson was a Unitarian Universalist for example. And he just happened to pen a little memo called The Declaration of Independence. I think there's even a day in july we celebrate it. Independance from who you ask? Why, it was England. I am Christian. But I see similar laws in secular societys and religions. Murder and steal were Illegal before the Ten Comandments made it so. I'd also like to point out that not everything about the founding days is so great. Slavery was a large part of the colonial American economic engine. But it would be absurd to argue a return to slavery just because it was a "founding princible." Public schools are not the place for the ten Commandments, the koran or any other established religion. School is for achademics. Unless of course you are willing to accept the teaching of all religious teachings and non-religious viewpoints. Who's beliefs deserve the same respect that you and I expect.
Frankly, I don't care what George Washington "It is impossible to rule a nation apart from the Bible.
(fancy a politician saying that) I look to the Lord for direction. This ring a bell? Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Maybe you should thik about that. Thanks

jesus

It don't matter what thier religious belief is their is only one god one son one holyspirit and at the name of jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess he is the LORD.

I am so tired over the fight

I am so tired over the fight of the 10 commandments being posted. We were founded on Christian beliefs. If you don't like it, go back to your own country.

Yes we are founded on

Yes we are founded on Christian beliefs, but the comment of go back to your own country sounds like ur sending vibes of hate. I don't think that Jesus would have made that statement. Well in fact, I know Jesus would not have made that statement. Jesus, kept mostly with sinners, for they are the ones whom needed him, and still need him to this day. Faith, prayer, love, and above all Jesus, will change their hearts. There will always be conflict in this world, it will never cease, until that final day, when Jesus returns.

Faith, all u need is the amt. of a small grain of mustard seed, and yet, it seems so huge. Just hold on though, for Jesus is always on time.

DO YOU EVEN KNOW

Do you even know why I'm on this flaming website? Because my school is MAKING me read readings out of the bible for my AP English class. What kind of school forces the Bible down your throat? I'm being tested on it two weeks into the school year. I thought about trying to read more of the Bible, but to be perfectly honest, it PAINS me to read it. All the sexism and one-sided stories. I don't even think I'm going to finish with this part of the assignment. I can't do it. Reading the Bible makes me want to crawl out of my skin and rip my hairs out one by one.

Also Tired of this Question

First: Once again, no problem with the 10 commandments as a whole. Many good principles and guidelines for living.

However: not original. Look up Hammurabi's Code and note the similarities (btw, not a religious document). Also, even though they are good principles, they are blatantly religious: No God's above Jehovah ring a bell?

It is debatable whether or not the US was founded on Christian principles. Even though many of the "founding fathers" MAY have been Christian, the entire reason America was founded was to ESCAPE religious persecution and promote religious tolerance. The Constitution specifically states that government should not ENDORSE any one religion. Posting religious documents in PUBLIC (ie gov't funded) schools or courthouses, or on the door of the White House is definitely an endorsement.

I am NOT encouraging the persecution of Christianity or prohibiting anyone from practicing their religion, just upholding the principles of the Constitution.

side note

By the way, Abraham Lincoln does NOT qualify as a "founding father.

And most of the presidents have been Christian simply because people are afraid of voting for anything else. So much for religious tolerance.

TheTen Commandments should be world wide

God said that he word stands and must be preached world wide.and every one could hear what thus saith the lord.Learn of him,his ways and his thoughts.when the ten commandments werein the schools you did hear of tragedy the way we do now.Kids were not trying to blow themselves up along with the schools and who ever was there.Children had respect, and thery were respected. There was never so much hate as it is today when the ten commandments were on the scene when people kick God out of a country you get pure hell.Look at the other countrys and how they live under dictatorship.none freedom.because of the absent of God
some country don,t have freedom to just talk freely without being punished.take a good look around

Many religions circle this

Many religions circle this nation. America happens to be the melting pot of the world. Therefore, that means that there is more then one religion in America. Church needs to be seperated from state. We are all equals no matter what religion you practice. Everyone should respect each others religions in a public facility, no one religion should be more predominant than another, if continuance of this will just create even more issues. A religion is real because you have the faith and believe in it. No one can tell which is right and which is wrong. You believe in it because you want to. So respect others with different beliefs then your own. Just because two people have different beliefs doesn't make them bad people. Public schools and schools in general are for education purposes; to educate children. Our educations system is bad as it is and one is worried about whether the ten commandments are being posted? Worry about more important things, don't just talk, act. If you say that the ten commandments being posted, is going to make my child a better person, I would say that you are wrong. Children are a product of how they are raised and home life. If you want the ten commandments to be posted in school for the sake of your child, then take them to a private school...go figure it's that simple.

oh and on the note to the person about we were founded on christian beliefs and if you don't like it then go back to your own country......your ignorate!!!
The first people here were native americans who were subjected to religious beliefs other then their own....and that was the death of them, and during that time what happened to thou shalt not kill???. And if you want to get technical, we all originated from another country moron.

Darwin, God and 10 Commandments

...before the Jewish people could leave Egypt, Moses had to deliver a few import warning messages to the Pharaoh in charge. Each and every message required a decision. If you don't let my people go to serve Me - not you - plagues will occur at specific defined times. Some say, "these were natural occurrences". Not even a small chance! Really now, does anyone down here in this tech-no age accurately predict anything? No Tech-nots! Not the disasters! Not the elections! Not the federal reserve! Not the bailout! Speaking to bailouts - God put the water under the Ark and bailed the water out from under the fleeing Jews feet so they could cross to enter the new land. Then with Moses "speaking to water", it was turning to blood... Look it Up! - Look it Up!

...how about those 1st. born - just the 1st. born. All the 1st. born! Genetic selection accomplished in one night. How long does it take modern science to find out who the father is, or if some one really committed a crime? Think about it! In just one night, no lab, no beakers, no waiting and 100 percent accurate.

...Darwinians are darloosings and kids are the truly confused by the "we are all going to go ape" theory in our schools. Intelligent design vs the darloosing debacle. Considering the dar's theory and comparing it to the short time that his statements have appeared on the evolutionary time table - it's just a couple of seconds short of a minute. You ape you, thats evolved into a man/woman. Your kids are going ape and you can't figure out why. Commandments! Think...

If you put on a wet-suit, fins, mask, snorkel it's as close as you will ever get to being a whale, a fish etc. Man/woman has always wanted to be fish like. Man/woman has always wanted to fly. We have boats, planes and even skydive. OK, but in all this time not one of us has ever changed back to an ape. We are still without scales and feathers! There has been plenty of time for us to mutate into anyone of these things. Read a comic book or the TV as we dream on as the dreams Darwin suggests continue. Darwin that! Are we are to believe that this evolution cycle is from a man/woman to ape? Humanity wants change!

Things change because of desires, search for safety, food, a new habitat, and politics. Man/woman should have had just one recorded instance of this in this long period of time before dar's theory was presented. How about from then to now? Census that! There should be plenty of offspring as the evolving proof. Enter darloosers with the missing link, better yet show me the man/woman that changed back to an ape! No one found that because God Created Man in his Image and Likeness then He created Woman! Hint: A Man and Woman produce the next generations! Notice, we don't climb all that well with out some very serious equipment; ropes, caribeners, pitons, ladders while the ape man still remains Tarzan in the books and movies. So, how's your tree climbing doing?

...kids say "no GOD" Well the Jews entered the desert - a great multitude with all manner of livestock to live in the land of sand with few oasis, and no regular caravans. Think logistics. How much water can a camel carry? How many camels does it take to carry it? What about sand storms? Anybody know they were coming? Well I have faith that you did the math, by the way did I mention they were in the desert for 40 years! Yes, thats right 40 years, recorded and witnessed by a very great multitude of people. Look it Up! - Look it Up! Clothes did not wear and water from a rock. Go ahead. Look it Up! - Look it Up!

Don't you think they could have walked out in all those 40 years - after all the desert is not that big, is it? Rate times time equals the distance. See your math teacher to convert this equation. See your history teacher for this next statement. They were led by a pillar of ________ at night and by day a ________. It's all recorded in the history of the Jewish people and was never disputed by the Pharaohs own scribes. What do you say to that? Makes you just go Ape doesn't it?

Look it up! - Look it up!

We need to put the ten commandments back in the schools. Based on what I have read in the news I would start with the one that says, "Thou shalt not Kill."
